The most fundamental and central principle in Islam is monotheism, a principle upon which the beliefs and practices of Islam are founded. This principle has been the focus of Muslim scholars and has been analyzed from various perspectives. Some contemporary thinkers, such as Imam Khomeini, Ayatollah Khamenei, and Sayyid Qutb, have analyzed the social aspects of monotheism. The realm of governance is one of the social areas where the role of monotheism is of great significance. A prominent example of the influence of monotheism in governance is the period of Imam Ali’s (AS) rule over the Islamic community. Therefore, in this article, after defining concepts and presenting different ideas regarding the theoretical and social aspects of monotheism, we will examine the impact of monotheistic thought on Imam Ali’s (AS) governance style and its social feedback.
