Abstract
This study aimed to develop a model of personality transformation based on the Sermon of the Pious (Khutbat al‑Muttaqin) in Nahj ul-Balagha, using a psychological understanding approach to religious texts. The research adopted a qualitative approach and analyzed the sermon in four stages: structural analysis, scientific formulation, articulation of findings, and examination of the possibility of generalization. Content analysis of the sermon led to the identification of six major levels of personality transformation components: meaning centering on the greatness of God, selective perception, value‑motivational reconstruction, emotional and metacognitive self‑regulation, integrative behavioral balance, and a transcendent relational pattern. These levels were organized within a hierarchical–interactive model in which transformation begins at the deepest level of meaning and gradually extends to behavioral and relational levels. Meaning centering functions as the necessary initial condition and the primary orienting force of transformation. However, once other levels become activated, reciprocal feedback relations emerge among them, forming a dynamic developmental process. From the text of the sermon, six psychological principles were derived: the primacy of meaning centering, perceptual selectivity, the motivational duality of hope and fear, constructive sorrow, integration and dynamic balance, and the priority of internal self‑regulation over social behavior. Thus, the Sermon of the Pious presents a systematic and multi‑layered framework for personality transformation with potential relevance for dialogue with contemporary psychology.
